APTAT Assistive Technology Training Series

Are you wondering about what’s new in the world of assistive technology (AT)? Are you curious about equipment and technology-related accommodation trends? Do you simply have a love of gadgets? Attend this training for an introduction to new and improved products and a discussion of how to apply them as workplace accommodations. JAN Consultants will discuss new accommodation approaches to a variety of accommodation challenges.
Join JAN Cognitive/Neurological Team experts Melanie Whetzel and Alexis Popa for an informative and interactive session on sleep disorders. Employees and employers alike contact JAN for assistance combating sleep disorders – whether the issue is too much sleep and the inability to wake-up, falling asleep uncontrollably, sleeping on the job, or the total lack of sleep that compounds cognitive difficulties. This session is designed with specific JAN examples that will prompt thinking and help generate attendee questions.
Join us for a timely and informative training about veterans with cognitive and mental health impairments and common accommodations that may be needed for success at work. Consultants James Potts and Melanie Whetzel will talk through real-life accommodation situations and solutions. As always, there will be plenty of time for questions.

To succeed at a job, one must master some basic skills – being on time, following directions, maintaining focus, and completing tasks. These skills fall in a category called executive function and lay the foundation for being a reliable and productive employee. In this workshop for youth and adults we will explore technology to support executive function at work. Topics will include managing time, staying organized, completing tasks, and maintaining focus. Information presented will be helpful for those new to the workplace, individuals with ADHD (Attention-Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder) or ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), as well as those with other executive function challenges. Join us for demonstrations of devices and mobile apps to include timers, task managers, wearables, and other tools that support productivity at work.

Device Abandonment & Prompt-Dependency in AAC
Join JAN’s Motor Team consultants Matthew McCord and Julie Davis in exploring workplace accommodations to assist your employees with gastrointestinal (GI) disorders. We will explore accommodations that are commonly beneficial for individuals with a variety of limitations that can arise from GI disorders. From ways to increasing access to a restroom, strategies for managing workplace stress, considerations for ensuring supervisors treat these needs with dignity, and more.

Anxiety can affect a student’s ability to focus and participate in the classroom. This session will showcase assistive technology tools and resources that can help students manage anxiety, reduce stress and improve focus.
Part two of this three-part series on executive functions for schedules will provide strategies and tools for remembering a schedule, calendar, task list, and managing time. Tools presented will range in compatibility with platforms such as iPad, Android, Chrome and web-based. Tools and strategies will be appropriate for middle school age through adult, users who are able to understand and use written language and use tools with moderate to advanced complexity.
